Cahonas x Pilot
Cahonas
I’ve worked with Cahonas Scotland for a number of years now, and this film is another chapter in a relationship I’m really proud of. Over the years I’ve had the privilege of filming several projects with this charity, who have profoundly influenced the shift in testicular cancer awareness — each one focused on starting honest conversations around testicular cancer and men’s health.
This time, the collaboration brought something different.
Cahonas partnered with Leith-based Pilot Brewery to create “Check Pilsner” — a 4.6% Czech-style lager designed to take awareness directly into pubs, bars and social spaces across Scotland. Every can carries a QR code linking straight to clear guidance on how to check yourself, turning a simple pint into a quiet moment of prevention.
Filmed in Glasgow’s independent craft beer bar and bottle shop, Grunting Growler, the project shows how campaign beermats, bar materials and conversations behind the counter can help normalise something that still isn’t talked about enough.
What I’ve always respected about Cahonas is their ability to meet people where they are. Campaigns like this — often part of their wider “pints and prevention” work — have helped reach audiences beyond traditional health settings and play a role in shifting how openly testicular health is discussed in Scotland and beyond.
It’s proof that awareness doesn’t always need a stage. Sometimes it just needs the right setting, the right collaboration, and a story told honestly.
